Aesthetic Medicine:
A branch of medicine focused on satisfying the aesthetic desires and goals of patients. This specialty is primarily focused on the pathophysiology of aging skin, and adheres to scientific based procedures. The International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine is a voluntary association of physicians which sets standards for the aesthetic medical profession. The goal of the association is to offer education, ethical standards, credentialing, member benefits and work towards certification in Aesthetic Medicine.
The IAPAM offers the only complete aesthetic medicine training program and support for physicians practicing aesthetic medicine.
Aesthetic Medicine Industry Growth
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States increased performed in 2006 increased by 50 percent from 2003. Over 9.5 million procedures were performed in 2006. The most frequently performed procedure was Botox® injection.
